According to a recent study, mental health issues effect 56% of those experiencing homelessness on the streets of Tulsa. Most don’t realize that they even need help, despite input from family, friends, and other people they come in contact with. Once upon on a time, people in these situations were committed to mental health facilities by their families, but abuse of that process led to the abolishment of it, thankfully.

That still leaves us in a tricky place for those who truly need help, but lack the capacity to realize or accept it.

They can't be forced into treatment unless they are an immediate danger to others or themselves, which often isn’t the case. Since they don't realize that they need treatment, and they can’t be forced into treatment, it’s a real “catch 22” with real human lives hanging in the balance. We hope to address this in July's True Charity Luncheon.

Event Date is July 18th, held in Gospel Rescue Mission's Gator Hall (GRM dining room) from 12pm-12:45pm, and lunch will be provided, so come hungry!
